What I Eat in a Day | Furlough Edition
If you look back ten to fifteen years ago, who would've thought talking about what you eat in a day can be a popular content? Food has always been a broad and interesting topic to cover. Recipes for the health-conscious or for with health issues, organic food grocery/farming, vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian etc all the kinds of lifestyle you can think of, the list can go on and on here.
Don't worry though. I won't list down my meal plan or show my mice en place here. Instead, I'd like to put the spotlight on a few good Samaritans – some of my good hearted colleagues at work.
Not so long ago, there was a Filipina that went viral and was even featured in the news for distributing food to help people affected by the global crisis happening right now. Her story touched so many. Uplifting stories like this is common to hear but to actually witness and experience such an act first-hand left a profound feeling of gratitude on me.
Last month, I asked a few of my colleagues to share some positive vibes and I was truly grateful to them for taking time to give words of wisdom for me to write about. This time though, I was pleasantly surprised to be blessed, not only with wise words but, with what seemed to be a bountiful market basket - an ayuda! This word has gotten really popular these days with the pandemic going on. It's a leg up for a lot of us who were furloughed that included a month's worth of mostly food basics. My generous colleagues were my supervisors. I also read a post in a facebook group of another colleague wanting to give groceries to furloughed staff. Apparently, it became a sort of goodwill drive this month after payday.

Simple acts of kindness and thoughtfulness at a time like this is so heart-warming. It gives hope and restores faith in humanity, as they say. It also reflects the kind of camaraderie and other values that have been formed among my work colleagues that I am extremely proud of, and our company should be proud of too.

Here's an article with a list of different government assistance that may help:
Covid-19 Financial Support: Everything you need to know
Sidenote: The Bayanihan Act, from what I know has not been extended yet and the DOLE Akap, (Link) I applied but did not receive any feedback regarding the status, hence I advise not to bank on this as this is still just government assistance. Still, these are assistance programs that if you qualify should be rightfully availed. Let's refrain from thinking that someone else might need it "more" or worst, feel embarrassed to need it, and still try to make the government fulfill their responsibility.
