The Case of Film Photography: Luxury or Reasonable?
It really wasn’t that expensive to own one in the 90's and since it’s the only way of taking pictures of your memorable experiences and milestones in life , it’s supply and demand made the prices fairly competitive. But buying a camera, a battery, a film, then paying for developing is a lost argument to my mother. Her practicality would put today’s trendy minimalists and backpackers to shame. Sure it wouldn’t be that much a pinch in the pocket to slide affordable camera options alongside food, clothing, house and school in the budget, but do we really have to? Answer: Not really. Do we really have to eat a bit less, have even lesser clothes than we have and have it documented in 36 shots of film? No, thanks!
So what will I tell her if she ask me why I’m going into film photography? A person with no symmetry in life, not interested in art as a kid? Haks I don’t know! I just can afford a hobby now that I might not get better at, to be honest😁 and it makes me wake up early to catch the sun for better exposure. It makes me go out and feel better.
Understanding the true value of delaying gratification and learning to live within my means
Understanding the true value of delaying gratification and learning to live within my means are lessons we all learned and are continuously learning as a family.
I reckon it is more challenging now with people in social media and other platforms displaying fake abundance that has become rampant. Maybe tuning out from it for the meantime so we can address reality will help (even the word “reality” doesn’t sound happy anymore I don’t know why). Live in the real world, cover your basic needs, solve/action your problems first, then maybe then, you can romanticize it on social media after if you really can’t help it.
Case solved! Defendant: Forgiven!(take note: forgiven, not innocent😆).
